Lochcarron Camanachd: Grassroots

Over 100 people are involved with the club, players, school children, parents, volunteer helpers and committee members. This is a remarkable number from a resident population of less than 800.
The club benefits greatly from the goodwill of our local families and support from local businesses, and in 2003 was awarded Highland Sports Development Club of the Year for innovative ways of overcoming remoteness.
Raising money to support the club, to fund the huge burden of travel throughout Scotland, for equipment, referees, injury insurance, and maintaining our pitch takes up a great deal of committee time.
The first fund raising event recorded was in January 1884 with an evening of Gaelic and English songs. For the next 126 years the club has entertained the community through whist drives, amateur dramatics, gala days, pub quiz nights, race nights, dances and ceilidhs as well as seeking support through raffles, lottos and ball and caman appeals to local businesses and estates.
